When the Ban Comes in the Night
By Lady Humanity | Equity in Ink | Humanity First Ohio
They did not knock.
They did not warn.
They did not come in peace.
By midnight on June 9th, this administration unleashed the broadest international travel ban this nation has seen since 2017 — sweeping across 19 nations, nearly all Black, brown, or Muslim-majority.
But this ban was not enough.
Now they send ICE agents with National Guard muscle, rifles ready, into our communities.
The uncomfortable truth is this:
👉🏽 This is not about security.
👉🏽 This is not about terrorists.
👉🏽 This is about fear as federal policy.
👉🏽 This is about power asserting its privilege on the backs of immigrants — lawful and otherwise.
And Lady Humanity will not mince words.
The Constitution is not an ornament — it is the armor of the people. You must wear it now.
✍🏽 What the Ban Actually Says — And What It Means for You
We begin not with opinion — but with the President’s own pen.
Signed June 8th, the official Proclamation reads:
“The entry into the United States of nationals of the following countries is hereby suspended… on the grounds that their governments are unable or unwilling to adequately share public-safety information…”
👉🏽 Translation: If the President claims your country is not sharing “enough information,” your people are banned from entering the U.S.
Who is banned?
👉🏽 Nationals of these 19 countries:
- Afghanistan
- Myanmar
- Chad
- Republic of Congo
- Equatorial Guinea
- Eritrea
- Haiti
- Iran
- Libya
- Somalia
- Sudan
- Yemen
- Burundi
- Cuba
- Laos
- Sierra Leone
- Togo
- Turkmenistan
- Venezuela
👉🏽 Who can still enter?
- Those with valid visas or green cards issued before June 9 — though expect increased scrutiny.
- Refugees already admitted; asylum seekers may still apply (though the process is harder now).
👉🏽 Who is denied?
- All new visa applicants from these nations — for family visits, study, work, or immigration.
Lady Humanity says this plainly: This is not about screening individuals. This is about closing doors based on nationality alone. The Constitution trembles when executive power leans so heavily on such blunt tools.
✈️ Flying Today: The Cold Facts
- Valid visas = legal to fly — but expect questioning.
- No nationwide flight cancellations — but airlines are quietly scaling back service from banned regions.
- If you do not have to travel today — DON’T. If you must:
- Carry original documents.
- Carry attorney contact info.
- Assert your rights if detained.
Know this: Even with a valid visa, you may face arbitrary questioning, delays, or intimidation. Stay calm and informed.
🚨 ICE On The Ground: What You Must Know
ICE is no longer moving quietly:
✅ Staging at hospitals.
✅ Targeting day labor sites.
✅ Appearing at schools and bus stops.
✅ Using National Guard soldiers — some with live rounds — as visible deterrents.
This is not about deporting violent criminals.
It is about creating fear and chaos to justify the ban and silence dissent.
ICE’s current tactics already cross constitutional lines — from Fourth Amendment violations to due process abuses.
🗽 How This Ban Tests the Constitution — Line by Line
1️⃣ Section 212(f), Immigration and Nationality Act
Yes — the President may suspend entry.
But this power is not immune to higher constitutional principles:
2️⃣ Equal Protection Clause (14th / 5th Amendments)
When 16 of 19 banned nations are Muslim-majority or African, and similar nations are untouched, this raises Equal Protection concerns.
3️⃣ Establishment Clause (1st Amendment)
If a ban disproportionately targets Muslim-majority nations, it can violate the Establishment Clause — even if labeled “security.”
4️⃣ Due Process Clause (5th Amendment)
Visa and green card holders already inside the U.S. or seeking entry retain due process protections. Arbitrary detention or denial of entry violates this clause.
5️⃣ The Danger of “National Security”
“Security” cannot be a permanent shield against constitutional review.
Executive power must be narrowly tailored, evidence-based, and temporary — this ban is not.
Lady Humanity’s verdict: This is a constitutionally fragile policy, ripe for challenge — but immediate harm is already being done. Communities must protect each other now.
🛡️ If You Are Affected — Your Next Steps (And How We Protect Each Other Now)
Know These 5 Truths:
1️⃣ You do NOT have to answer questions about your status to ICE or police.
2️⃣ You do NOT have to let ICE into your home without a judicial warrant — administrative ICE forms are not enough.
3️⃣ You do NOT have to sign anything without counsel.
4️⃣ You DO have the right to film public ICE operations.
5️⃣ If detained: Invoke silence and demand a lawyer.
Carry These Numbers:
- United We Dream: 844-363-1423
- Immigrant Defense Project: 212-725-6422
Travel Wisely:
- Confirm flight status and visa validity.
- Carry original documents + attorney contact.
- Do not travel unnecessarily during this enforcement surge.
Protect Your Community:
- Attend Know-Your-Rights trainings.
- Document and report raids.
- Support affected families financially and emotionally.
- Challenge misinformation.
Lady Humanity’s Closing Word:
The ban came in the night. The raids came with the dawn.
But we will not be disappeared by decree.
We will not be silenced by soldiers.
We will not abandon each other to fear.
Presence is power. Knowledge is armor. Voice is non-negotiable.
If you are an immigrant, traveler, ally, or advocate — stand grounded. Know your rights. Protect your people.
And remember: no Executive Order is above the Constitution.
And no fearful government can erase our shared humanity.
The People’s Pen: Ethics. Equity. Action.
